How to beat the Droideka
The Droideka rolls in fast, raises a shield that deflects blaster fire and outlasts the ranged units sent to kill it. Light Side players on the SWFAR Discord say they hate it more than the Spider Droid right now. Its shield has an obvious hole. Here's how to use it.
Card numbers come from the game's own data tables at base level 1. Advice mixes that data with what players on the SWFAR Discord report is working right now.
What makes it strong
Droideka4 energy, 636 HP- 4 energy tech unit that rolls quickly to its target, then plants itself.
- Its shield deflects blaster fire. Rebel Troopers, Clone Troopers and most Light Side shooters do little to it.
- It attacks from range with twin blasters, so it trades well into the ranged-heavy decks most Light Side players run.
The best answers
| Card | Cost | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
Dressellian Rebel Warrior | 3 | Dashes in and hits with an area melee strike. Melee goes straight through a blaster shield. Community players say it beats the Droideka. |
Wookiee Warrior | 3 | 1,291 HP melee tank that walks up and pounds it. |
Y-Wing | 4 | Bombs are not blaster fire. Players report the Y-Wing kills a Droideka at equal level. The TIE Bomber does not, because it hits for less. |
Ion Mine | 3 | Shock damage across a wide area, good against all Separatist tech. |
Resistance Grenadier | 4 | Stuns tech units, which stops it shooting and shielding. |
Chopper (Hera) | 2 | Stuns tech units with electric attacks. |
BB-8 (Poe) | 3 | Hacks it to fight for you. |
How to play the matchup
- Answer with melee or bombs, not blasters. Every ranged unit you send into the shield is energy wasted.
- Catch it rolling. A Droideka is weakest before it sets up. Drop your answer where it is going, not where it is.
- Pair the Y-Wing with a push. If the Y-Wing kills the Droideka and knocks back its escort, walk your units in behind it.
- Watch for drop pods. Some players run a Rebel Drop Pod to land Dressellian Warriors right on a defensive Droideka.
If you are the one playing it
- Don't send it on offense while the enemy leader is alive. A leader or a dropped melee card kills it before it does its job. It is strongest on defense, in front of your turret.
- Pair it with something that stops melee: slows, stuns or a tank in front.
- See the full droid plan in the Grievous Droid Army starter deck, and how to beat droid decks in the Grievous droid counter guide.
