How to beat Grievous droid decks
General Grievous makes every droid in his deck tougher, and his players flood the lane with B1s, Droidekas, Assassin Droids and Spiders. Some players report facing nothing but zero-organic Grievous decks, which hard-counters any deck built on organic tricks. Here's what Grievous adds, by the numbers, and how to take his army apart.
Card numbers come from the game's own data tables at base level 1. Advice mixes that data with what players on the SWFAR Discord report is working right now.
What Grievous gives his droids
General GrievousLeader, 1,298 HP
Separatist Assassin Droid4 energy, 1,638 HP
Droideka4 energy, 636 HP
Dwarf Spider Droid5 energy, 859 HP- Passive: Cyborg General. Every deployed tech unit gets +6% Attack Power and +6% maximum health. His level 5 perk adds another 3% to both.
- Level 7 perk: his tech units deal an extra 15% damage to Jedi. Jedi leaders feel it most against a maxed Grievous.
- Skill: Swift Strike (38 second cooldown). He hops back, then dashes in and slashes everything in front of him with all four lightsabers.
- Grievous is himself a tech unit, so tech stuns work on him too.
The droids to watch
| Card | Cost | What it does | How to answer it |
|---|---|---|---|
Separatist Assassin Droid | 4 | 1,638 HP melee droid that keeps spawning Probe Killers, which soak turret shots. | Kill it fast with burst or a stun. The longer it lives, the more Probe Killers you face. |
Droideka | 4 | Shield deflects blaster fire. | Melee, bombs, tech stuns. See the Droideka guide. |
Dwarf Spider Droid | 5 | Laser cannon that hits multiple enemies hard. | Melee units that get under it, or an air strike. |
B1 Battle Droids | 2 | Six cheap droids with 71 HP each. | Any area damage: grenadiers, flamethrowers, air strikes. |
B2 Super Battle Droid | 5 | Two tough droids that shoot on the move. | Tech stuns and focused fire. |
Vulture Droid | 5 | Air strike that lands and transforms into a 2,430 HP walker. | Save an anti-heavy answer for when it lands. |
Your best tools
| Card | Cost | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
Ion Mine | 3 | Wide shock damage across a droid swarm. |
Resistance Grenadier | 4 | Area damage that stuns tech units and leaders. Hits Grievous and his droids at once. |
Chopper (Hera) | 2 | Stuns tech units, leaders and buildings. |
Rex (Ahsoka, Fulcrum) | 3 | Grenade that disables tech units and leaders. |
BB-8 (Poe) | 3 | Hacks a droid to fight for you. The bigger the droid, the bigger the swing. |
Rebel Grenadier | 3 | Area damage for B1 swarms. |
Y-Wing | 4 | Bombs the swarm and knocks it back. |
How to play the matchup
- Build for tech, not organics. Organic-only tricks (Stun Grenades, Nerve Gas, Dioxis) do nothing to droids. If you keep losing to Grievous, swap one organic stun for a tech stun.
- Stun the clump. Droid decks push in tight groups. One Resistance Grenadier or Ion Mine on the group stuns or damages most of the army.
- Kill the Assassin Droid first. It is the card players call the bane of the meta because its Probe Killers keep soaking your turret's shots.
- Trade cheap into the swarm. Area damage for 3 energy against a 2 energy B1 swarm is fine. Spending a 5 energy air strike on it is not.
- Punish Swift Strike. After his dash, Grievous is deep in your units. That is the moment to hit him.
Dark Side mirror
In Dark Side mirrors, the First Order SF TIE Fighter stuns tech units and leaders, and Rocket Stormtrooper handles the heavy droids. Want to play the droid army yourself? Start with the Grievous Droid Army starter deck.
