Win as a team
2v2 is live in Reborn as an unranked Arcade mode and in guild Friendly Matches. Two players with average decks who work together will beat two strong players fighting separate wars. Here's how to split roles, pick leaders that fit together, chain combos and stay on the same page.
The basics of 2v2
- Each player brings their own deck and energy. You can't spend your partner's energy, so plan pushes where you both have energy at the same time.
- Both players can't use the same leader. Agree on leaders before queuing with a friend.
- Pings are team-only; emotes are seen by everyone. Use the ping to call targets and danger. Don't use emotes to plan.
- You can queue with a random partner or create a team with a friend. In Arcade 2v2 you may even be paired with a partner from the other side.
Pick roles
The anchor
A tanky leader who holds ground and soaks attention: Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Agent Kallus, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker (Ahch-To), Rey. Brings frontline units and control.
The damage dealer
A leader who kills leaders and breaks turrets from behind the anchor: Boba Fett, Emperor Palpatine, Baze Malbus, Han Solo, Jyn Erso, Snoke. Brings ranged units and burst.
The commander
A leader who makes the whole team stronger: Grand Admiral Thrawn (speeds up allied organics and leaders), Finn (boosts organic allies), Bodhi Rook (supply packs anyone can grab), Grand Moff Tarkin. Good when your partner is the stronger player.
The disruptor
A leader who stops the enemy from playing: Supreme Leader Snoke (silences leaders), Kylo Ren (freezes), Bossk (snares), Count Dooku (slows). Pairs with any damage dealer.
A good team has one anchor plus one of the other three. Two fragile damage dealers fall apart the moment the enemy dives them.
Leader pairs that work
| Pair | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Darth Vader + Boba Fett | Vader Force Pulls the enemy leader into the fight, Boba's bonus damage to leaders finishes them. |
| Grand Admiral Thrawn + Darth Vader | Thrawn's skill speeds up allied organic units and leaders, Vader's organic army benefits fully. |
| Supreme Leader Snoke + Kylo Ren | Snoke silences enemy leaders so they can't escape Kylo's freeze and follow-up. |
| Bossk + Emperor Palpatine | Bossk's net snares a group, Palpatine's lightning hits everything stuck in front of him. |
| General Grievous + Count Dooku | Grievous runs the droid army, Dooku slows and counters whatever dives it. |
| Obi-Wan Kenobi + Baze Malbus | Obi-Wan taunts enemies onto himself, Baze's Buster Shot hits them while they're busy. |
| Luke Skywalker (Ahch-To) + Poe Dameron | Luke's projection pulls enemies into one spot, Poe's cheaper air strikes land on the crowd. |
| Rey + Finn | Rey turns enemy organic units into allies, Finn's Swift Attack speeds up the whole organic army, stolen units included. |
| Luke Skywalker + Bodhi Rook | Luke anchors the lane, Bodhi's supply drops keep him healthy and fed with energy. Bodhi's turrets and U-Wing also help his partner push. |
| Emperor Palpatine + any anchor | Palpatine's attack jumps every time any leader dies, allies included, so with four leaders on the field his passive fires far more often than in 1v1. |
| Hera Syndulla + a frontline partner | Deploying Chopper speeds up Hera's skill and energy, and Chopper stuns tech and buildings, which opens turrets for the partner's push. |
| Anakin Skywalker + Padmé Amidala | Padmé boosts her organic units' attack, Anakin's rage boosts his organics' attack speed. Two buffed clone armies push together. |
Combos between partners
- Pull or taunt, then strike. One player gathers enemies (Force Pull, Slave I, Energy Net, Obi-Wan's taunt, Luke's projection). The other drops a TIE Bomber, Y-Wing or grenadier on the clump.
- Stun, then burst a leader. A stun grenade or Aphra's grenade locks the enemy leader, then both leaders and an air strike hit at once. Remember units only do 35% damage to leaders, so the burst has to come from leaders, skills and support cards.
- Silence before you dive. Snoke's silence or a stun first, so the enemy leader can't use an escape or defensive skill when you commit.
- Stack buffs on one push. Hyper-Adrenal, Thrawn's command and Finn's Swift Attack all speed up organics. Fire them together on one big push.
- Steal and swarm. Ben Kenobi or Rey converts the enemy's best organic unit while your partner floods the lane.
Positioning
- Stay close. Leaders within reach of each other can trade focus and save each other. A leader caught alone dies to two.
- Anchor in front, damage dealer behind. The anchor takes turret fire and enemy leader attention; the damage dealer stays at range.
- Push one turret together. Two players hitting the same turret break it far faster than two separate pushes, and turrets shoot units before leaders, so send units first.
- Don't stand in a clump of your own units when the enemy has a TIE Bomber, Y-Wing or Slave I ready.
- Watch the mini-map. When an ally turret is under attack, the closer player answers it while the other keeps pressure on.
- Grab supplies. Health and energy packs appear on the field. The player who needs them more should take them.
Talking to your partner
- There's no text chat in battle, only pings, emotes and a few preset phrases. Tapping the wrong emote can look like trolling to a random partner, so stick to pings.
- Ping the target before you commit to it, whether it's a turret, a leader or a unit.
- Ping danger when an enemy leader heads for your partner.
- When a leader dies, the survivor should fall back and defend until both are up, unless the enemy leaders are dead too.
- With a friend, use voice. Join the Reborn Discord to find partners and talk while you play. The Monday Looking for Players thread in the SWFAR Facebook group is another good place, and a guild gives you guildmates to queue with.
