How to play Ezra Bridger

Ezra is the most-shared leader in the community this week, and one of the least understood. He's a hybrid: a lightsaber rush, a blaster that follows it up, and a passive that makes your whole organic army attack faster the more damage he takes. Played right, a wounded Ezra is more dangerous than a healthy one. Here's how his kit actually works, with the numbers from the game files.

Numbers come from the game's own data tables: base level 1 stats, skill values and the full perk table. Reborn is early, nobody has every leader maxed yet, and the Reborn team tunes balance, so treat matchup advice as the current read and check the What's new page after patches.

His kit, explained

  • Basic attack: rush and shoot. Ezra closes on an enemy with a quick lightsaber rush, then pulls back and fires his blaster pistol. The rush has its own cooldown, and his first two perks make both halves of this combo better.
  • Skill: Spinning Strike (25 second cooldown). Ezra leaps forward swinging his lightsaber and deals 250% of his Attack Power as area damage to everything he lands on. It is a gap closer and a clump clear in one button.
  • Passive: Contemplation. Every time Ezra loses 10% of his health, he and every organic ally get +3% attack speed. At half health that's +15% for your whole army, and at 10% health it's +27%. Tech units and droids don't get the bonus.
  • Kanan Jarrus, his Unique. Three energy, 1,397 HP, and he reflects blaster fire back at the shooter. Kanan walks in front and soaks the ranged fire that would otherwise chew through Ezra's cheap units.
  • Why he's tricky: Contemplation rewards you for letting Ezra take hits, which feels wrong. The trick is to take damage on purpose, inside your turret's range, and never let him get burst down from full health.

Army speed is the attack speed bonus for Ezra and every organic ally. Energy is the extra energy recharge from his fifth perk. The sweet spot is around half health: a 15% faster army while Ezra is still safe inside your turret's range.

Perks and when they unlock

Perks unlock as the leader levels up and cost Perk Points and Credits. Leaders max out at level 8, and the fifth perk needs level 7, which is why so few players have seen a fully perked leader yet.

Game plan

  1. Go wide with cheap organic units. Contemplation speeds up every organic ally, so more bodies means more value. Aim for an average cost around 2.5 and no tech units.
  2. Let him take a little damage. Don't pull Ezra back at the first hit. Fight inside your turret's range and let him drop toward half health, where your army attacks 15% faster.
  3. Kanan leads, Ezra follows. Play Kanan in front of your push so he eats and reflects the blaster fire. Ezra and the swarm hit what's left.
  4. Save Spinning Strike. Use it to land on a clump of enemy units or to finish a low leader. With the fourth perk, leap onto the enemy leader, stun them for 2.5 seconds and let your units finish the job.
  5. Stay Rebel Alliance. Four or more Rebel Alliance cards (Ezra counts) turn on the era bonus: enemy units deal 6% less damage to your turrets, up to 10% with all 8.

A deck to start with

CardJobWhy it is here
Kanan Jarrus
3 energy, 1,397 HP
Unique, front lineReflects blaster fire and holds the lane for 3 energy. The reason Ezra survives ranged decks.
Twi'lek Rebels
1 energy, 65 HP, x4
Cheap swarmFour fast melee attackers for 1 energy. Every one of them gets the Contemplation bonus.
Rebel Troopers
2 energy, 142 HP, x4
Cheap rangedTwo energy shooters that hide behind Kanan.
Talz Marauders
2 energy, 230 HP, x3
Tough meleeThree sturdy melee units for 2 energy. Great on tanks and walkers.
Rebel Honor Guards
4 energy, 504 HP, x4
Heavy meleeFour high-health guards. Your strongest push card.
Rebel Grenadier
3 energy, 240 HP
Swarm clearArea damage for the enemy swarm, so yours wins the trade.
C-10 Stun Grenade
2 energy
ControlTwo energy stun on the enemy leader. Lands with Spinning Strike for a leader kill.

Average cost 2.4, every unit organic, and seven Rebel Alliance cards for the era bonus. Swaps players are running: Urodel Resistance Fighter or Bantha Rider for a bigger front line, or Azumel Spotter for more range.

How to beat Ezra Bridger

  • Burst him, don't chip him. Every 10% of health he loses makes his army faster. Save your damage and take him from high health to dead in one go instead of whittling him down.
  • Bring crowd control. Stuns, nets and Cad Bane wreck his plan. One community Ezra player called crowd control and Cad Bane the worst matchups for his deck.
  • Splash his swarm. His best decks are full of cheap organic units. Area damage and air strikes erase the bodies that Contemplation is speeding up.
  • Kill Kanan with melee or splash. Kanan reflects blaster fire, so don't feed ranged units into him.

What players are saying

Ezra is the most-shared leader in the SWFAR Discord's deck-sharing channel this week, with two very different builds: a 2.7 energy list with Rebel Honor Guards and an Urodel tank (open it in the builder), and a 2.4 energy list with a Bantha Rider (open it in the builder). As one player put it, Ezra mains are a rare breed. Join the conversation in the SWFAR Discord or the SWFAR Facebook group.
